If you want to smile and laugh, get to know Shawn and Lissa Anglin. They are the wonderful duo behind Lissa Anglin Photography. Lissa and Shawn are so fun to work a long side and do a phenomenal job capturing every aspect of a wedding day. I asked Lissa and Shawn some questions about their experience with wedding photography, and I loved reading their answers. Enjoy!
Tell me about yourselves.
We are high school sweethearts who love working as a photographer team on wedding days. We have 3 awesome kids and love traveling and new adventures. We complement each other well- Lissa is more structured (I love a good list!) and Shawn is more easygoing.
How did you get started with wedding photography?
Lissa: I got started right after college working for a great portrait photographer, Mark Umstot, who let me try all the things and make all the mistakes! I had only taken one photography class in college but my Art degree has come in handy. I just kept photographing friends, and before I knew it, I was able to quit my job to do photography full-time. I still have an “always-learning” attitude. I asked Shawn to come to a wedding out of town once so he could drive me home after a long day. He picked up an extra camera and turned out to be pretty good at capturing candid moments that complimented my photos. So, after that, he was hired. 🙂
Why did you choose this career path?
People. I knew I wanted to do something creative, and photography allowed me so many awesome opportunities to connect with people. People invite us in to capture one of the best days of their lives- how awesome is that?! Plus, there is cake. 🙂
What is your favorite thing about your job?
Cake. Haha- kidding, sort of. The people, again. I love that most of our clients become friends by the time we are finished with their wedding. I also love surprising people with photos they didn’t see happening or didn’t expect (in a good way, of course!). It’s fun to delight our clients.
What sets you apart from others from other wedding photographers?
The most obvious difference is that we are a married photographer team. It allows us to be in two places at once, and we love using our married telepathy skills to sense what the other needs during busy moments. 🙂 It also means that our clients get double the amount of images in the same coverage time! Aside from that, we really have hearts to serve. Wedding days can be stressful, and we want to be a presence of peace and help as much as we can.
What is something interesting about yourselves that other people don’t know?
Shawn and I were cheerleaders in college. We were on a squad with 8 guys and 8 girls and actually competed on a national level. Don’t ask us to do any stunts, because we can’t anymore, haha.
What do you like to do in your free time?
All the things. We probably have too many hobbies. Lissa loves to paint, design (I have card and wedding invitation designs on minted.com, Mpix.com, and greenvelope.com), write about life on her blog partofmeblog.com. Shawn loves to golf, play guitar (he was in a band for a long time when we were first married), and find new places for us to visit. (Lissa also makes amazing presets for pictures! You should look into those too!!! – Kaitlin)
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why??
We literally have a shared “travel bucket list” that we update weekly, haha! Top of the list is Disney (we are hoping to surprise our kids with a trip soon), Europe (Greece/Paris/Scotland), but we also plan on visiting China again with our family because our youngest daughter was born there (which would be Lissa’s 6th time to go, Shawn’s 4th!).

Shawn- Non-alcoholic: Topo Chico, Alcoholic: a finely brewed IPA or Old Fashioned

Anything else you would like Eberley Brooks blog readers to know about you?
We absolutely love working at Eberley Brooks. Each venue is unique and beautiful, and well set-up. The staff is kind and helpful and so efficient. We are thankful to work in this awesome industry!
Ok, guys. You can’t tell me that you don’t want to be their best friends or work with them all the time! I loved reading their answers, and I hope you know this husband/wife team just a little bit more. They are creative and so loving. Good people to surround yourself with, trust me!
Thank you Lissa and Shawn for answering all of my questions. I’m so glad I get to post about y’all this week! Also, y’all better have a cheer routine ready for me the next time y’all are here.
